How to Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1
Step One: Download and install Sn0wbreeze 2.8b11 (which was released just before the release of iOS 5.0.1)
Step Two: Run the software.
You’ll be greeted with the welcome screen. Ready? You don’t have to connect your device as of now.
Step Three: The software will now ask for the IPSW file.
Locate the IPSW file that you downloaded. This should be iOS 5.0.1 IPSW.
Step Four: Now the IPSW will be verified by Sn0wbreeze.
Click on the blue arrow once again to proceed.
Step Five: Opt for Expert Mode on the next screen.
Step Six: Choose Build IPSW on the next screen.
You’ll have plenty of options here, including Unlock (for being able to unlock the GSM baseband of your iPhone). For now, go for the Build IPSW.
After a while, sn0wbreeze will display the message that the iOS 5.0.1 has been pwned.
It’s time to connect your device now. Connect your device and follow the instructions being shown to jailbreak your iDevice.
Step Seven: Connect your iPhone/iPod to the system.
Hit okay after this and you will be guided to put your iDevice into the DFU mode.
Step Eight: After that process is complete, you will be asked to restore via iTunes.
This is where it gets important. Press the left Shift and click on “Restore” button on the iTunes restore window.
Step Nine: Choose the local IPSW file which was pwned by sn0wbreeze and click OK.
Your device is now jailbroken.

Things to Note
This is tethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1. That’s the recent update Apple provided after it heard of the battery issues on iOS 5 devices like iPhone 4S. The jailbreak works on all devices prior to iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0.1. If you want to jailbreak your device, you can even upgrade your device to iOS 5.0.1 and proceed with the jailbreak.
But this is tethered jailbreak. That means every time you restart your iPhone or iPod Touch, you’ll need to connect it to your PC/Mac running the iBooty software and follow the same process again.
